Yaadein: Memories: AYUB DILBER

(Translation in English)

 MEMORIES

Ayub Dilber

Gone are the days when smiles danced upon the lips,
And a beautiful, innocent glow graced every face.
Mothers would lull their children to sleep with sweet lullabies,
And in the midst of the rainy monsoon, maidens would sing songs of their beloved.
When lovers whispered their deep, intimate secrets to one another,
And talk would turn to the sacred vows of union,
The lover, addressing his beloved, would passionately declare:
"For your sake, I shall pluck the moon and stars from the sky,
And with those very stars, my love, I shall adorn your hair."
My beloved! My life!
But look what it has come to now—
Those beautiful moments, those beautiful dreams, stand imprisoned and bound in chains.
The lullaby has turned into a mournful wail, and those songs have vanished.
From those beautiful faces, tears now flow incessantly,
For, my love, you too are lifeless,
And, my love, I am lifeless as well.
