FOLDS OF PRAYER : RAFIYA SAYEED

FOLDS OF PRAYER

RAFIYA SAYEED

I planted a prayer seed
in the soil of graveyards,
believing it will bloom
with the fragrance of amnesty
to cure the diseased hearts-
unkind, unreal, cruel and hard
with whiffs of kindness,
compassion and concord.

I whispered a prayer song
in the air of darkness,
deeming it will hush
the cries and woes of orphans,
widows, oppressed mothers and fathers
with the silence of starry nights.

I sent down a stream of prayers
made with tears of mourning,
believing it will flow into the sea
merge into it and be one;
then rise into the highest clouds
and pour down as rains of peace.

I tied a prayer note
to the dainty feet of a dove,
deeming it will fly to the red skies
and return with a branch of hope
from a novel land of humanity
where Kingdom of love and harmony rules.
