CAREER PROFILE
A career spanning 40 years.
Started with J&K Handicrafts (S&E) Corporation as Manager, Kashmir Govt Arts Emporium and later Statistical & Review Officer.
Joined Indian Postal Services in 1976.
Served in the Army Postal Service on deputation for 9 years, returning to the parent department as Lt Col.
Retired on 15.02.2010 as Member (Planning) Postal Services Board, New Delhi.

During the later periods in J&K, the state faced the worst form of terrorism. He ensured postal services were brought on track in a short time.
In 1990, he was the first officer to obtain orders for the rehabilitation of migrant staff as well as Extra-Departmental Employees outside the Valley, which was followed by other Departments.
Arranged Pensions for all retired migrant staff outside the valley.
Ensured the immediate transfer of all the accounts of migrants from the valley to the places where they migrated.
Special arrangements were made to make payment of Savings certificates up to a specified limit without mandatory prior verification from the Office of Issue to mitigate the problems of migrants.
From 1992-95 as Director of Postal Life Insurance, New Delhi, he was instrumental in the opening of the Rs 50,000 crore Rural Insurance market for the Department of Posts by presenting the case before the Malhotra Committee of Reforms in the Insurance Sector.
Besides, brought about many changes in policy and procedures in the Postal Life Insurance.
For a short duration, worked as a Cartoonist for newspapers in Srinagar, Kashmir: Jahan-e-Nav, Navjeewan, Hamara Kashmir, and Uqab.
Took on the responsibility of Joint Editor of Uqab Weekly, Srinagar for about a year.
Participated in debates on Yuva Vani (All India Radio, Kashmir) and Door Darshan, Srinagar, besides conducting Quiz programmes.
LITERARY ACHIEVEMENTS
Established as an eminent Urdu fiction writer, Autobiographer, Critic, and Researcher.
More than 160 short stories in Urdu have been published in India, Pakistan, and other European countries.
Authored about 270 critical essays and book reviews.
Wrote two research-based books: Urdu Ke Ghair-Muslim Afsananigar and Krishan Chander - Meri Nazar Mein.
Book reviews were regularly published by Hamari Zaban, an Urdu Weekly published by Taraqqi Urdu Board, New Delhi.
Several short stories have been broadcast on AIR Kashmir & Urdu Service, New Delhi, and one short-story was televised on Doordarshan, Kashmir.

Many short stories have been translated and published in English, Hindi, Kashmiri, Pahari(Gojri), Marathi, Telugu and Bengali languages.
Two translated stories were included in anthologies in English by Rakshanda Jalil:

The story Mukhbir has been translated into Bengali by Adway Chowdhuri & Abhishek Jha and included in their anthology titled Kash published in 2018.

Attended a 3-day seminar on 'Baresaghir mein Urdu zabaan wa adab- Kal aaj aur kal' organized by Kashmir University in August 2007. Presented a paper on 'Jammu wa Kashmir mein Urdu Afsana'.
Attended a 2-day Seminar on 'Secular character of Urdu Language' organized by the Centre for Professional Studies in Urdu, Jammu University in March 2008. Presented a paper on 'Jammu wa Kashmir ke Afsanvi adab mein Qaumi yekjehti ke Anasir'.
Attended a 2-day National Seminar on 'Urdu in J&K- Past, present and future' organized jointly by the Centre for Professional Studies in Urdu, University of Jammu & University of Kashmir in January 2009.

Awarded the Postal Life Insurance Gold Medal by the Director General, Army Postal Services in 1979.

Awarded the 'Rashtriya Gaurav Samman' by the International Friendship Society, handed over by Shri B N Singh, Ex-Governor of Assam and Tamil Nadu.
Honoured by the Andhra Urdu Academy Hyderabad in 2007.
Honoured by Sadbhavna Manch in Sironj, Bhopal with 'Kalidas Samman' in 2008.
Awarded the '5th Dr Manzar Kazmi National Award 2019' for fiction by the Deptt of Urdu, CCS University, Meerut, Uttar Pradesh on 12 Sept 2019.
