Demonstrating a strong commitment to consumer health and safety, the Jammu and Kashmir Chief Minister has directed the Food Safety Department to intensify its inspections on the sale of substandard meat and other food products across the region.

The directive was issued during a high-level meeting on market regulation chaired by the Chief Minister on Monday. According to an official statement from the Office of the Chief Minister shared on social media platform X, the CM underscored that protecting consumer health remains the government’s foremost priority, with zero tolerance for any compromise on food quality and instructed the Food Safety Department to intensify inspections, ensuring all food items meet quality and safety standards.

In line with this vision, the Food Safety Department has been tasked with conducting surprise inspections across markets, particularly focusing on meat sellers, to ensure strict adherence to hygiene and quality standards. Vendors found violating regulations will face stringent penalties, including fines and possible closure.

The Chief Minister also called for enhanced coordination between municipal authorities, police, and market regulators to guarantee the effectiveness and sustainability of the inspections. Citizens have been encouraged to play a proactive role by reporting any suspected instances of unhygienic or substandard meat to relevant authorities.

This move comes in response to growing concerns raised over the past week regarding the sale of low-quality and unhygienic meat in several districts of Jammu and Kashmir. The government’s latest measures form part of a broader campaign to elevate public health standards and restore consumer confidence in local markets.

With these renewed efforts, the administration aims to ensure that residents of Jammu and Kashmir have access to safe and quality food, reinforcing the government’s commitment to safeguarding public well-being.
