Chief Secretary Reviews Implementation Of New Education Policy By SED

In a crucial development aimed at enhancing the quality of education across the Union Territory, Chief Secretary Atal Dulloo conducted a comprehensive review of the implementation of the New Education Policy (NEP)-2020 by the School Education Department (SED).
Joined by key officials including the Administrative Secretary of School Education, Director of School Education Kashmir/Jammu, Chairperson of JKBOSE & Director of SCERT, Director of Samagra Shiksha, and other departmental representatives, the Chief Secretary emphasized the need for measurable indicators and timelines for the six verticals outlined in the NEP.
During the meeting, CS Attal Dulloo underscored the importance of awareness among teachers about the policy's features, emphasizing their pivotal role in its successful implementation. He stressed the necessity of capacity building and training to ensure educators are well-equipped with the policy's components.
Moreover, he urged for a concerted effort to reduce implementation gaps within the stipulated timeframe and emphasized the importance of creating necessary infrastructure to support schools under the NEP.
In his address, the Chief Secretary enquired about the progress of establishing ICT and Atal Tinkering Labs (ATLs) across districts, development of smart classrooms, and the establishment of Vidhya Samiksha Kendra (VSK).
Furthermore, Dulloo called for exploring opportunities for major players within the UT to contribute under Corporate Social Responsibility (CSR), highlighting the importance of community participation in improving school services and resources.
Piyush Singla, Secretary of School Education, in his detailed presentation provided a detailed overview of the measures and steps taken by the department in line with the NEP-2020. He highlighted key principles and verticals of the policy, including respect for diversity, equity, community participation, use of technology, and emphasis on critical thinking and creativity.
Parikshat Singh, Director of SCERT, disclosed that the department had conducted numerous training sessions to enhance teacher capacity. He revealed significant progress in curriculum framework implementation and teacher training, with thousands of teachers completing various courses under NISHTHA.
He made out that till now 33 tasks had been completed, 52 are in progress under curriculum framework-2020.
Under IMPACT, he gave out that more than 34000 Grade 2nd and 3rd teachers completed their one-month training course through online mode, 78975 Elementary Teachers (100%) completed the course under NISHTHA 1.0,21926 Secondary and Senior Secondary Teachers (81%) under NISHTHA 2.0and 40318 Pre-Primary and Primary Teachers (100%) have successfully completed the course under NISHTHA 3.0.
Moreover it was added that in J&K 18 VTPs (Vocational Training Partners) are empaneled for imparting skills training in 1315 schools during 2023-24, 1803 Vocational Trainers/Teachers have been engaged. Approximately 126000 students from class 9th to 12th are enrolled in 15 different trades. It was revealed that 803 vocational labs have been established and made functional for the students and establishment of 532 labs are in process of establishment. Further in 1648 Upper Primary Schools, 74000 students have been provided exposure to the Basic Vocational Skills through local Artisans in 2023, the meeting was informed.
He also highlighted the strides made in vocational education, including the establishment of vocational labs and the engagement of vocational trainers.
The meeting concluded with a strong commitment from all stakeholders to ensure the effective implementation of the NEP-2020, underscoring the collective effort to transform the education landscape in the Union Territory.
